<BR>On 27 October Leningrad Oblast deputies decided to retract insurers' authorization for financing medical insurance for the unemployed, transferring it to the Leningrad Oblast Compulsory Medical Insurance Fund (LO FOMS). <BR>According to DP's sources, the total sum for maintaining LO FOMS in 1998 should amount to 8.92m roubles, and 4.2m roubles for all the insurance companies.<BR>"We just cannot exist under these conditions," said Yury Yeremeev, general director of the Leningrad Oblast Medical Insurance Organisation (LOMSO). It looks as though this is what the oblast deputies want they intended to request that the State Duma halts the federal Compulsory Medical Insurance Law in the Oblast.<BR>Attempts to prevent insurers from insuring the unemployed date back to a petition by the Leningrad Oblast Council of Head Doctors to Vitali Klimov, Leningrad Oblast Legislative Assembly speaker.
