<BR>Starting in the summer of this year, customs officials at Pulkovo International Airport will relieve passengers of the burden of filling out declaration forms, a formality which is at present obligatory when entering or leaving Russia. Although introduced on a temporary basis to test its viability, if the new procedure is deemed successful changes to the present system will remain permanent. Igor Grigoriev, deputy chief of customs at Pulkovo, informed TASS press agency that the experiment is being undertaken to create a so-called "Green Corridor", already in effect at several foreign airports. The corridor will serve to speed up the routine process of passing through customs and will work as in many other European countries. Passengers either exiting with no objects subject to confiscation i.e. objects such as antiques which may not legally be taken out of the countryor entering Russia with nothing to declare, will no longer be required to fill out customs declaration forms.Moscow's international airport Sheremetievo has already tested out this new procedure and will with all likelihood continue to operate with "Green Corridors".According to Grigoriev, the exact date for customs officials at Pulkovo 2 to put the planned changes into force depends on when construction of the airport's new departure hall is completed. With the hall's realization, new customs booths will be created, each equipped with a "Green Corridor".
