<BR>The American Council of Teachers in Russia announced a contest for placement in 5 training programs in America for 1998 and 1999. The programs are financed by the American government. The contest was announced as a part of the program "Act in support of freedom" for elementary school children, university and institute students, graduate school students, as well as a program for Fullbright grants for young teachers in Russian institutes and universities of Russia. In all the programs the basic requirement is fluency in written and/or spoken English. For participants of the Russian 9th and 10th grades the program offers training one year in country experience (in America). Applications are accepted from anyone who was born during the period from January 1, 1982 to July 15, 1983, who has good and excellent grades and studied English. Students will study in 2-3 year colleges in America for one year. Participants of the student program could be students in the first year of university or institute (between the ages of 18-25). The program offers scholarships for different majors: business, journalism/mass media, informative/computer science, criminal science, political science, and sociology. In the program for 2nd and 3rd year students, anyone from 17-25 years old can participate. Majors include: American studies, business, municipal and government departments, journalism/mass media, environmental studies, agriculture, economics, law, and others. Participants don't meet the requirements if they are married to an American citizen, presently participating in a different American educational program, etc.
