<BR>During a reconstruction period of the hotel Astoria some of the antique furniture that was created under the architect Lidwal was moved into temporary storage for safekeeping. 13 mirrored closets fit into the storage space of Soyuzinturistspetsremstroy (the company carrying out the repairs which took over Remstroyintur's position). The Petersburg Committee of Government Control and Preservation of Monuments (KGIOP) established that during the storage period the furniture was significantly damaged. According to KGIOP the material responsibility should belong to Remstroyintur however an arbitration court ruled against KGIOP. The court ruled that the Astoria transferred the furniture for safekeeping, having signed a transfer receipt but not having signed any transfer contracts or acts and therefore the hotel is responsible for the furniture and should pay damages.
