LUKoil Abandons St Petersburg

LUKoil has cancelled its plans to develop a company network of petrol stations in St Petersburg.
LUKoil has cancelled its plans to develop a company network of petrol stations in St Petersburg.
Leonid Epshtein, deputy general director of ZAO LUKoil SPb, officially made the announcement to a DP correspondent. The official explanation is that the company was forced to make the move by the crisis which arose last year. "We were forced to adjust our programme, in conditions that are unfavourable for investment," says Leonid Epshtein. "We will not be building petrol stations in St Petersburg; in the new climate we give priority to the Northwest: Karelia, and Murmansk and Pskov Oblasts. It costs significantly less to build a station there than it does in St Petersburg (here you have to spend at least $1m)." Epshtein did not quote specific figures for the development of a LUKoil petrol station network.
