<BR>The vice-president of Ecuador Rosalia Arteaga Serrano recently stopped in St. Petersburg on a work visit. Talks took place in Smolney at which the possibility of developing an active collaboration between St. Petersburg and Ecuador were discussed. For now the collaboration would focus on the import of Ecuadorian bananas and coffee. In 1996 the import of these two products totaled $24 million. According to the Ecuadorian vice-president, because Ecuador is on the path to economic transformation it needs technical support, particularly in agricultural and industrial sectors. Ecuador is interested in export from St. Petersburg of machine building technology, shipbuilding technology and in training students at Petersburg institutes and universities.
